something to think about...

Chile has lost a lot of its capacity to move its agricultural markets to the ports... with roads destroyed. Watch for the impact in your local food market, as fresh produce people have gotten used to suddenly becomes in short supply. This will mean avocados from Chile won't be cheap and growers in California will see the market recover. It may make the public think about depending on food from far away.

There is this side of things, yes. No more blueberries, asparagus or other fruits and extremely energy costly vegetables and fruits, I gave up buying them months ago! Perhaps the local growers will benefit.

A lot of avocado growers in Fallbrook will see the market price increase which may help some of them stay in agriculture. I watch labels for country of origin. People will adjust, but they will find it costly.

You make a good point. I check, also, and won't buy produce from Chile. Yes, prices will go up and this should help our local growers and make us more aware of supporting them at all times, not just in crisis.
