When I was a child it was either the 'red menace' (communism) or the 'yellow peril' (china) that was going to destroy the 'world'. I now know that neither of these were a danger to people, only to capitalism. Capitalism is doing more harm to the planet than any other ideology of these times. Considering that the GOP is the defender of the capitalist creed and that GOP states are considered 'red' states, it seems the 'red scare' of the 21st century is the Republican Party and their brand of capitalist/christian thought.
