May. 3rd, 2002

First real day at work in a while, been splitting my time between classes and training and taking care of my elderly parents.

Parents don't like giving up their independence, and they are fighting me all of the way. I'm trying to convince them to move closer to medical care and public transit. Right now they live in a place I'd like to have some day, 8 miles from the post office, one mile up a graded dirt road on 2 1/2 acres with the dogs, cats, goats, and chickens. They've been there since 1976. Now they get older, and life isn't so easy. My Dad is having memory problems, my Mom had chemo last year. I spent part of two days at their place, getting them to their doctor's appointments, and to the bank and grocery store. Gotta work on finding a workable solution.

Sister feels like she is helpless in the above situation. She's a workaholic, with a husband who is retired. Someday she will realize that working till you die isn't worth it. She thinks I'm too close to our parents, and said she doesn't have the time to play games. She is too pushy and my parents don't like it. I told her she has to back off and play it slow, they will move when they decide. She frustrates my Mom as she reminds her of her older sister, someone she was never fond of.

Tomorrow I fill the day with a variety of errands. First I get my car serviced, then I drive to my sister's house and get my motor home. I then drive my motorhome to my parent's place. I then catch a ride back to my sister's place when she returns home after helping "clean up" at our parent's place. I'll then drive back to my Mom and Dad's and spend the night. All this running around will amount to over 400 miles travel in one day. that is the main reason I want to move them closer.

I'm taking Sunday as a day of rest. I can still feel the tension in my shoulders from the last week.
