In recent times I remember one Memorial Day weekend, being back in the Golden Trout Wilderness of the Southern Sierra Nevada, when it decided to snow, after we had hiked 8 miles into the back country. We decided to establish camp and ride out the storm, awakening to a snow covered landscape (we were at 7,000 feet). We packed our now heavy and wet camping gear and hiked out in a matter of hours, then took a wild, bumpy, muddy, 4X4 ride to safety and a warm meal. I really enjoyed that adventure. We didn't panic, we were prepared.
