another example of cops hiding behind the badge

Seems the officers involved in the November 18th pepper spray incident at UC Davis don't want an investigative report released to the public because it contains critical comment about the behavior of the officers involved and names names. Oh well, they can commit crimes but can't stand the heat... sounds like they need to get out of law enforcement.  The cops should not have a 'shield law'. If they are accused of a crime, the public needs to know. If they are innocent, we need to know that too. Any action by a cop under the color of authority that violates standads of conduct should be treated as a crime and the officers need to face the public, just as any other member of society does. Are we going to have a double standard just so cops can be 'protected' from the wrath of public opinion? Posted on Dreamwidth

a letter to the chancellor of UC Davis...

This letter describes in detail what the police did to those sitting on the ground, with arms linked, protesting in solidarity with those students at UC Berkeley... when you read it you may be horrified at what was done to the students who were practicing non-violent protest.  The chancellor needs to resign and police procedures on campus need to be reviewed. This was outright brutality. Posted on Dreamwidth

a good article about protests...

This article about the incident at UC Davis is very telling in that it clearly shows how the militarization of our police, the War on Drugs and the War on Terror have endangered out civil liberties... It also shows how important is is to protest now or watch the life we hold dear be destroyed and become a memory. The thought of class warfare makes some people uneasy, but they need to remember,  since the Reagan regime, American workers have been under attack, the middle class have lost ground and poverty and homelessness have increased dramatically. Some of you may be familiar with George Orwell's 1984.... that is what we will have folks if we don't resist. Posted on Dreamwidth
