Jean-Henri d'Anglebert, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Louis and Francois Couperin: Pieces de Clavecin. Giuseppe Verdi - his later operas. Frederic Chopin. Lots of other stuff, but I always come back to these.
Nothing classy about it. Their music is riveting. Their voices pierce to the heart. There is never a false note or throwaway line.
Here is Mario del Monico. You don't have to know the words, where this is from, or even what it's about to get an intense reaction to his performance of this Verdi. This goes to the core, nothing classy about it a all. (And I know the meaning of the words, where it is from, and definitely what it is about.)
I love Mark Knopfler and others but since I went through chemotherapy I struggle with stimulation. I rarely listen to music anymore. It is too much for my nervous system.
