Thoughts on Reagan..
Jun. 5th, 2004 10:50 pmFor one I'm glad his battle with Alzheimer's is over, no soul deserves this disease.
I remember Reagan, for the closing of California State University Fullerton because the students there were protesting his visit.
I remember Ronald Reagan for his tax cuts and massive national debt, (sounds like Dubya learned it from him).
Overall, he was an average president, he did end the 'cold war', and started the downfall of communism. He was the start of the rise of neocon thought, and his legacy lives on in the Republican Party today, with its right wing agenda and star wars missle defence.
He was the first to fight wars with mercenary armies. The Iran-Contra fiasco was his doing. His legacy includes many in his administration who spent time in prison doing what they thought was 'right' but at the same time, was criminal.
A radio broadcast I heard tonight said that in a survey he ranked 4th, behind Washington, Lincoln, and FDR. I don't hold him in such high regard. I'd place him a few steps below that and only one step above Richard Nixon.
