All the road running.
Apr. 15th, 2015 02:31 amI've got to be a gypsy. All my life I've been addicted to travel by car or motorcycle. I long for the carefree days when I used to roll out on my motorcycle and just ride. My mind is filled with imagery of places I've been. I've driven coast to coast on the interstate when I just needed to cover ground but that gives you a somewhat tainted view of the country. I've also travelled the byways, the two lane roads from one place to another and have met some interesting people. As I travel I watch the changing sky. I listen to local radio to get s feel for the area. I visit small cafes. I shop in local markets. I love yard sales and farmers markets. I haunt the local flea markets but have to have restraint because you can only carry so much when you travel. I've had times when travel wasy life. I spent four years on disability and between the times I was seeing doctors or lying in a hospital bed I travelled. I rode to Yuma Arizona one day just because it seemed like a good place to visit. I toured the old prison there and had lunch. I drove a short way out of town along the Colorado River and spent the night sleeping in my truck. I've always loved the national parks. I've visited Yosejute and the other California parks mumeroys times. My favorites are CraterDevils Tower. These two parks hold special meaning for me. Now that I'm older I have my lifetime pass so going to a park costs me nothing. Two years ago I used the pass at every opportunity..
As for driving, I have times when a 100 mile day is good enough and other times you drive a thousand miles just to get where you want to be.
Earlier I mentioned about watching the sky. Weather changes as you travel as few storms travel as fast as a car can. Going East I've raced to stay ahead of bad weather. Driving West I've had foul weather last for days. I've seen snow in the summer and floods in winter. One thing you ca count on is that weather changes. So my advice is hit the road. Discover America. We have a big country full of interesting places to see and experience.
