Was watching PBS a few nights ago and watched an episode on the San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railroad.... a lot of history and geology... from the early days to the Carrizon Gorge and beyond. A lot of history is near the border. Check out Campo Store too. Best to explore before it gets too hot...

I used to live about 9 miles west of there in Potrero. The railroad is worth going to see and they used to have short rides available. I wonder if they still do.
