What is happening is the working class (including a large percentage of people with college degrees) have lost a lot... they have no job, they have lost their retirement savings, they have lost their homes. The enemy here is the financial institutions and bankers who betrayed the trust, and crashed the markets, and the economy. No, the focus is the top 2% of the economic spectrum.
I think people are feeling cheated, and now they see the people at the top as the focus of their anger. Our media. once a force of change is now complicit in the crimes against the working class.
The American people are complex, some are active and participate in the political process, others are so disconnected that all they care about is watching the lies of the media and following sports teams. they are living in a daze, totally unaware of what is happening in the world. Some, such as the political fringe (the Tea Party, and some Republicans) are living their prejudices and trying to destroy the country for their own delusional goals. They are the hypocrites.
We are at a critical point in the history of the United States, we are either going to see the rebirth of a government of the people, or a slide into a fascist government where the people are repressed. If it becomes the latter, then it will be a while, but eventually the people will resort to a violent change.
Going back to an original question you had.. no, Wisconsin had no role in not confronting Libya... what the United States is doing is waiting and watching what s happening in the Arab world. We supported a lot of the dictators that have fallen and I don't think we know how to approach the people in these countries as they have a real suspicion of our motives.
