This morning I decided to make a trip to Temecula as my head cold/allergies was raging out of control. On the way there I noticed a couple of cyclists on the shoulder repairing a tire. I did a U turn and asked if they needed any help. I loaned them my large foot pump which made the task a bit easier.
I've been seeing a lot more cyclists since the Adventure Cycling Association established a route (Sierra/Cascades) through this area. While one of the cyclists today was well prepared, the other was in need of some help as the bike she was riding was not suited for the task she was asking it to do. As it was a Sunday I called my friend in Idyllwild to check if his shop was open. I then told them to check in there and he would be able to diagnose the problems they were having with the tires and shifting, Later after returning home I checked again and he was working on the bike. He was able to upgrade the bike from his used parts bin and make it posible for the women to proceed onward on their trek to Canada.
Right now the way my head feels, I couldn't do it, but after talking to cyclists who are doing this route, I need to try some cycle touring. So, while I recuperate I will check out my gear, and see what I need to do to carry the gear and do an overnight to Idyllwild. There is a bike/hike camp at the state park, so that makes for a place to stay.
