Another Day...at work
Aug. 2nd, 2001 06:48 pmI work with the public and sometimes the public is somewhat amusing. Most people think because they pay taxes, I am their slave. Not true. I pay taxes, and the average person who thinks I should jump every time he says so, is of low income, is retired, is older, and has lived in their house for more than 20 years.
I was checking out a "citizen request" today where someone wanted me to reconstruct their driveway approach, as it was in the public right-of-way and I was working in the neighborhood anyway. When I told them it was good, and did not meet my criteria for replacement, they then said that what if they caught their heel in the 1/4" wide crack and fell down. Then they would sue the city for much more than the cost of a new driveway approach. There are times when you wish you were carrying a tape recorder. As it was I have a witness, and if i get wind of a trip and fall suit from this address, I'll be willing to go to court to prove that it was fraud.
So much for today, got to make a phone call in 5 minutes.
