This weekend was a defining moment in my Dad's life. After wrangling with what and how to treat him in his current state of health, we decided to invoke his durable power of attorney for healthcare that is part of his living trust. It is apparent that he is failing mentally and very fast and that his condition will not improve. He has lost the ability to swallow food, so he is on IV's. We made arrangements for hospice care, gave the doctors their instructions and a copy of his paperwork and now leave his life in the hands of God. It will be hard, very hard for a time, until he passes, then the real hard times come, helping my Mom, planning the funeral, planning a memorial service, informing those agencies and others that must be told of his death.
It won't be easy and I will never forget what my Dad gave me. I love my Dad....
