Dry Lightning..
Jul. 17th, 2003 09:25 pmIt is fire season in the mountains of California and as anyone who has lived there can tell you, you are at the mercy of weather and those people who have no understanding of how dry conditions are.
Today was a day of 'dry lightning', that is a thunder storm without rain. This occurs when moisture evaporates before it hits the ground. We have a large fire near my Mom, now at 11,500 acres and only 10% 'contained'. Last night I spent time in Anza, watching the mountains to the south burn. This morning, as I left, the air was filled with acrid smoke, the fire was still visible.
Everything is safe for the moment, this weekend I will make an additional effort to ready the place and make my defensible space a bit more.
