The Democratic Convention
Jul. 25th, 2004 09:06 pmIt seems that in this climate of fear that has been fostered by Dubya has even made its way into the Fleet center in Boston. This year it should be noted that freedom of speech is not actively supported by the Democratic Party. This come shortly after this part of our Constitution was gutted by the Republican Party.
I think that this year should be the year that protest, as we have known it changes. If we can't get them to notice us using peaceful means, then we must change our tactics and start the process of letting our opinions be known using 'in your face' demonstrations. As peaceful groups have been infiltrated and subject to surveillance, so people in peace groups should infiltrate those organizations that support the present regime and its war. We need to change our focus, the politicians won't listen, they don't care. So, I propose that people bring it to the media, bring it to your local city council meeting, bring it to the doorstep of your local paper. What if every early morning TV show had loud demonstrators appear outside their studios? What would ABC, CBS, and NBC do? When ther is a call in show, lie to the screener to get to be on the air, then start slowly, and after 10 seconds, let loose with your opinion.
I'm sorely afraid that Dubya will be in power for four more years. This means that law abiding citizens will become suspects, will be subject to unwarranted searches, will be subject to secret trials, will end up being held without benefit of having a hearing or being able to examine the evidence or charges against them.
We have seen things like this before. The Japanese-Americans saw this during World War II. The Native Americans saw this when we stole their heritage and their country. It was around during the McCarthy hearings in the 50's. The Jews remember this during Hitler's rise to power. The Palestinians see it every day. There may be other groups I didn't mention, but I think you understand.
History is bound to repeat itself until people start looking back and trying to change. We must change. We must vote. We must demand a paper ballot. If you vote this year, vote absentee. Get your paper ballot that way.
Well, that is enough for one post. I figure this is enough trouble for one day.
