Who would have thought that jury duty would be a battleground. It seem that in my area jury duty is compulsory. No excuse is acceptable with a final decision on any excuse requiring the potential juror to appear before a judge. In the case I am involving myself in a person is summoned to jury duty but has no transportation available. They told her to find a way to court or face a failure to appear notice and potential fines and jail time. I have asked the court to explain their logic and they say they are making jury duty compulsory and do not accept "weak" excuses to skip this "civic duty". My next step is to take this to the media and let the court of public opinion rule on this. Yes I am rocking the boat but is see this as something that needs to change. Why should someone feel threatened by the courts because they do not own a car or lack public transportation? Oh, and I will also bring this to the attention of the ACLU. I will post more as this develops.
