Somewhere over the horizon..
Sep. 18th, 2007 03:45 pmSomewhere out there lives hope. You read the news, and its all bad. Why not some good news once in a while? Is it the secret agenda to keep hope and joy away from our lives? Yes, I know that there is a lot of bad in the world, but once in a while we need to see the humanity of man, the hope of the people, the good that one person can bring to this world.
Look at Habitat for Humanity, an example of people giving people hope and in exchange for sweat equity, a home. Nothing like having a home. I see people who live on the streets, everyday. It comes with the place I work, a civic center complex. Home ownership is one of the foundations of the American dream. It should be something everyone can reach.
How many people in this country are hungry? Too many go to bed hungry at night, while in some places food is shuffled to dumpsters when it doesn't sell quickly enough. Why do cities place barriers to public feeding programs? One man I meet said he brings sandwiches to Civic Center every day because this country gave him hope when he arrived here as a refugee from war torn Viet Nam. He gives me hope.
What we need is a return to a country where people count. We need to fix New Orleans, its been too long. They invented a home to solve some problems that the FEMA trailers posed. The Katrina Cottage may provide a home to many. I can see a 9th Ward of Katrina Cottages, home for families, homes to make a part of New Orleans whole again.
Enough ranting, I need to find some good news.
