'in my life'
May. 14th, 2008 06:51 amHow far back can you remember?
I can clearly 'see' in my mind, a view from my highchair, sitting in the sunlit doorway of the kitchen, as my grandma take one look at me and says I got chicken pox... The year was 1950... or maybe 1949.
My mind works like that, I capture images, in vivid color, they are there for me to pick up and look closely again, at the details.... It's the way my mind works. I get great joy of visiting the past... a lot of good memories, but there are some bad times too. I keep those in a special place I don't visit often. The bad is bad, I don't hide from it, I just try not to dwell on it. I've moved past that point.
more from the past....
May. 14th, 2008 09:50 amI can remember warm summer days, going to the backyard of our home on
Donnell's Pond Road to dig for some worms, getting my fishing pole and
small tackle box together and walking the path along the local brook,
(Alder Brook), being very quiet to avoid scaring the native trout. I
remember returning home by afternoon with a couple of trout that would
be cleaned, dipped in egg, rolled in corn meal, and fried in a cast iron
skillet for dinner...

May. 14th, 2008 12:48 pm In recent times I remember one Memorial Day weekend, being back in the Golden Trout Wilderness of the Southern Sierra Nevada, when it decided to snow, after we had hiked 8 miles into the back country. We decided to establish camp and ride out the storm, awakening to a snow covered landscape (we were at 7,000 feet). We packed our now heavy and wet camping gear and hiked out in a matter of hours, then took a wild, bumpy, muddy, 4X4 ride to safety and a warm meal. I really enjoyed that adventure. We didn't panic, we were prepared.
