The view across the valley....

I've dealt with dementia before, as for my Dad, there was a slow decline at first, then you reach the tipping point and quickly fade away. All that knowledge you gather becomes forgotten, as simple tasks become more difficult. He finally reached that 'child like' state, where he started noticing the little things around him, more like a 5 year old, than a man of 81 years.

Now my Mom is entering the stage where her short term memory is fading, and she forgets something she was told 20 minutes ago.  I'm working hard this time to glean what knowledge I can of her childhood, and of her time. She enjoys telling stories, although she repeats herself a lot. One thing she can remember was meeting Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt as they passed through Ellsworth Maine on their way to Campabello Island.  She watched their dogs as they made a visit to the local bank. She remembers it was a large touring car, and the driver sat up front behind the glass, while she sat in the back playing with the dogs. It is stories like this I'll remember as she slowly fades away. She will be 81 soon (March 14th).
This is a small panorama of Coyote Canyon... about a mile from my place.

This is a much large panorama from the same spot... this may take a while to load (over 3 megabytes)... broadband recommended.
