shades of 1984

First we had a group of Palin supporters trying to change things on Wikipedia to fit her blunders, now we have to put up with a bunch of Michelle Bachman suporters trying to make John Adams a founding father... sounds more like an Orwellian nightmare every day. We need to have a national holiday to celebrate the prophet that George Orwell was.

If you want to know what life would be like under the rule of these clowns, take some time and read 1984... and there is an audiobook out there too for those who are victims of our poor school system or those to pressed for time because of our wonder system of free enterprise where we have to work multiple jobs just to put food on the table.

the siesta..

When it gets hot here, there are times when it is too hot to go outside... so I now plan a siesta for that part of the day. I just woke up and the outside air is much better.

This morning I was up before the dawn, and doing more throwing and also did a quick few boxes of stuff from my food storage (preserved and packaged dry goods) and gave away three boxes of food. I boxed 25 pounds of flour, 10 packets of dehydrated eggs (equal to one dozen eggs per package), 10 pounds of corn meal, five pounds of dehydrated potato flakes,  and 20 pounds of dry non-fat milk mix. That has now left the premises, and that only made a small dent in my supply.

My parents were survivalists in that regard, and maintained a years supply of food on hand at all times. They were both born in the Depression era, although they lived very different lives.  My Mom's family was poor, and she told me of times when they made dumpling soup from flour and water and added whatever else they could find for flavor. My Dad came from a family that always had food, and everything else, as my grandfather built boats for the rum runners during prohibition. He was making big money during those years. That is another story.
