Oh well, the end is near, as Diedrich Coffee, my alternative to Starbucks, just sold out to Starbucks. Shame on you Diedrichs for abandoning your loyal customer base. We were there because we didn't want to go to Starbucks and it's sterile environment. And shame on you Diedrichs for what you are doing to hundreds of loyal baristas. Another case of corporatism triumphs.

That's very sad. You'll have to come up here and stop at Barefoot Coffee Roasters. Meanwhile, there's always Peet's Coffee & Tea, which is gradually expanding out of California but seems to remain true to its 1966 Berekely roots.

Yes, I will have to try to make it to San Jose area sometime soon. As for Peets, there are a few in Southern California, I'll have to check them out.
