Saturday.. I wanted to sell at the local swapmeet but weather got in the way....rain, high winds. Spent a lot of time in bed, it was cold outside. Got up, got dressed, had a quick breakfast.... thinking how shitty the day looked... got outside, into the car, went to lovely 'downtown' Anza. Had a thought (that can be dangerous) and headed toward Palm Desert.   If you don't know, this involved mountain driving, rain, 60 mph winds (winds so hard they rocked the car like it was a toy). on down the mountain, down state route 371 to state route 74, down the hill after climbing, through the curves, past the rocks, along the sides of deep canyons. Into Palm Desert, slightly breezy but a lot warmer, the sun was winning down there. Got to State Route 111, right or left.??.. right towards La Quinta and a anti 1% demonstration or left towards Palm Springs and a large art show. I went left.

The winds increase, I stop at a local swapmeet to find the place had been destroyed by wind a few minutes earlier. I watch as a vendor salvages his clothing from the middle of the street, portable canopies are in ruin. I stop for coffee at McD's and wait.

I move down the road, the winds start to really blow, there are trees down, cars crushed under huge eucalyptus trees, traffic lights are out, debris is flying everywhere. It doesn't phase me, I continue onward into Palm Springs. Then on the radio I hear about the power outages, 2000, then 2500, then 3000 homes without power. I see debris and palm fronds flying past me, I guess it is time to turn around. They close I-10 and other roads because visibility is near zero. Back to where I came from, a stop at Fresh and Easy, three pounds of apples, $1.49, a loaf of cheap bread 99 cents, some milk and then I'm off up the hill. There were times when the wind was so strong it seemed to be trying to stop my forward progress, the radio said they were getting reports of 70 mph gusts. I made it home, started a fire, had some canned onion soup (I do need to make some), a few apples, and some computer time. Watched three movies from Netfix streaming (although I am finding their selection someone limited if looking for intelligent films. Hey, it is a free trial for one month. I did watch Portlandia, a couple of National Geographic specials, a couple of documentaires, and did find the process quite good.

Now its time for bed... maybe the weather will be better tomorrow.
