The empire is crumbling. It has been said that empires never last forever but I am deeply disappointed that I have to live to see the American Empire fall. Some say our Constitution was the framework, others saw it as an impediment to their goals. Either way, the Constitution was destroyed by citizens bent on making a government and county where the founder's values were discarded and replaced with greed and disdain for those outside a select circle.
Maybe its time for the West Coast to declare independence from the remaining states, then the Northeast can form its own country and be the financial capital of the world, let the South rise again, to form the New Confederacy, and the Midwest can become the Bible Belt it has always wanted to be.
No, this election marks the start of the fall. that slippery slope to chaos and anarchy. McPain plans on a thirty day campaign of lies and distortions that will play to his 'base' and sway those dumb enough and/or racist enough to believe it. Unfortunately there are far too many that will fall for his 'straight talk' and love of conflict and war. That will be the nail in the coffin of our 'democracy' (we never really had a democracy). The dumb and dumber will triumph and we will become a third world country.
I wonder how the public will greet the new era? Will they enjoy sitting around telling tales of the days when the sky was blue and the water was drinkable? Will they wax nostalgic about travel by car, about abundance on store shelves, of electric lights, and freedom? How long till our moral and spiritual decay infects the whole hemisphere?
Its time to rent and watch '1984' , Blade Runner, and The Postman. These post apocalyptic tales will give a preview of times to come. Hell, we'll be living it too soon.
No, I expect my 'sunset years' to be full of strife and conflict as forces within this country turn to force of arms and start the coming revolution.

Date: 2008-10-05 04:01 pm (UTC)We won't return to the prosperity this country once had, but it seems we didn't do well with it, that greed led to greed and squandering to squandering.
I still think we can turn this around, at least I think it some of the time. :)
