It seems we are not in a recession as much as we are facing a depression, and there are a few more years of suffering ahead of us. I'm working on getting a few medical problems out of the way before I find myself without health insurance (yes, I can continue if I want to pay dearly).

Our system of finance is failing badly, with most banks headed for failure. I'm transitioning to a cash only existence.  In some respects, retirement will give me more options rather than being subject to the whims of management that doesn't have a clue of how they will extricate themselves from the deep hole they have dug. I'll be poor, but with options.

The numbers of homeless in Civic Center seems to grow daily, I see more new faces as I walk to work. I know if I'm in need of a meal, they serve food three times a day here. I have a bunch of stuff I'll bring down here soon, clothes and sleeping bags, two items these people need. I might have to find some cheap tarps at Harbor Friehgt to pass on too.

I may have to ride out the depression in Anza, and I don't think recovery will be before 2010.

Yes, sadly, I agree with you. There are no signs in the moment leading to a turn-around and once there are, recovery will still take time.

Sobering. I'm grateful they are able to serve three full meals a day there.

I keep thinking of the movie Cinderella Man. How quickly life can change.

Who knows when the recovery will be?

It's in the interest of the "loyal opposition" that Obama not succeed. If he succeeds before 2012, he stands an excellent chance of being reelected. If he doesn't succeed with the economy, the "loyal opposition" stands a good chance of winning the election.

This is not the best way to run a country, obviously. The system is faulty, but nothing is going to happen to fix it.

I'll be under Medicare in July. Until then, I'm uninsured. My doctor was very good about it. He lowered his fee without my even asking. I go to my dentist on Thursday. We'll see what happens there. Hopefully, it won't be too bad. Medicare doesn't have dental coverage, so this will be an ongoing expense.

Good luck with everything!
