Awake, with the sound of the fan running low.

Is the illusion of how great our system of government supposedly is slowly being broken down by the revelation of how many millions are sufferung from lack of jobs, healthcare, and the hope of a future?

I think a few see how bad things are but the vast majority are oblivious until they get that layoff notice, or find they can't get treatment for a sick loved one.

Has humanity left the country? Has society become so un-caring that we do not care about the suffering around us?

Are we failing as human beings?

We need to look closer at what is happening around us. We need to start by providing some dignity for those less fortunate. We can start by facing the truth rather than turning our heads as if we are ashamed. Start by paying it forward. Donate clothing to charities that give direct aid. Give hope. Give a sense that you care. Remember, we aren't but a paycheck or so away from being where these people are.

Enuf for now....maybe time to sleep some more, thankful I have a roof over my head and food in my stomach, and that I have health insurance.

These are good questions and I don't have answers. I agree with you that we need to start facing the truth and "paying it forward."

Perhaps truly looking it in the face is a beginning. I am going to go through my closets today and give away. There is more here than I need.

I, too, have a roof, food, and health insurance, and perhaps, that allows me to feel even more the fragility of those things. There is no assurance that things will stay the same, and there never was, and it is daily more obvious now.

Perhaps the continuing awareness that we are all sharing the same boat will bring about the change we want to see.
