This article provides a perspective to dwell on... of being thrust into te job market at 59... seems that part of the problem with the current trend of job losses is that quite a few people are out the door long before they are ready to retire. I was lucky in that I could retire before the axe fell.

Sobering, beyond sobering. I just can't figure out how this can all work out. There are too many people in his position. What will happen, what is happening? I find it frightening for us all. We are all affected by this and yes, so far, it is somewhat hidden but for how long? I am seeing benches removed that have been there for the 33 years I've lived here, but they were starting to become places for the homeless to congregate. How do we solve the problem? Remove the benches. :(

I worked in Santa Ana the county seat of government. We had a civic center full of homeless, with meals distributed three times a day, and other groups providing medical care and counseling. The real shame was those in power worked hard at masking the problem rather than finding solutions. In a Capitalist society a person has no value without being either a consumer or a producer. We are seeing the capitalist credo falling apart, betrayed by its own greed, and we are seeing the first legions of the next revolution.

Yes, I agree. I watched the movie The Road this week. It didn't feel far-fetched. There will be a tripping point downward. I keep hoping we can catch ourselves and I worry. How can we be so insensitive, so blind?

Peace!
