curmugeonThe last few days have been frustrating as many of the people I know post regularly are not able to, and sometimes I've had problems. Most of my posts are on Dreamwidth and when LJ is working they cross post here. That hasn't been happening.
So, an update... Been living with a rather large local wildfire, watching the ridge lines behind me, and watching fire fighting aircraft fly overhead, they even used the plane they call the "super soaker" six times. The super soaker is a converted DC-10, a rather large plane but a very capable tool in fire fighting. It drops a huge amount of fire retardant in one load.
It has been hot, not quite over 100 but still hot. I've got some stuff I have to get mailed this week, I'll be packing it tonite and Friday.
I've been working/playing with bikes. Today I took a quick ride on my road bike to get used to my new cycling shoes and the cleats and pedals. All went well, and the ride was fast. I do have to remember to put a better seat on this bike, since changing the wheels and tires, it is not forgiven, transmitting every little ripple in the pavement to my butt and hands. I guess that is the price you pay to put "go fast wheels and high pressure (140 psi) tires" on the bike. At approx. 20 pounds, the bike is fast and easy to ride distance at speed.
I've been monitoring the politics in Washington and have concluded that our government is totally dysfunctional and needs to be changed. That will happen through an election, or if the two parties try to steal this election from the people, the battle may move to the streets. I find the apathy and ignorance of the average citizen a disgrace, and as a veteran I now question what I was fighting for.
