I think you'd like a trip to the desert, especially a peaceful day of silence and meditation in a nice warm climate. Some places I go as so quiet you can hear the slightest breeze, or hear you own heartbeat (especially after a strenuous hike). Today I'm contemplating a trip to the more civilized desert, around Palm Springs to have a nice bike ride.
i didn't even know you had desert til now. i have been hoping one day to be well enough to take a trip through arizona in the spring time - lj friends in tuscon, then hook up with whoever, or maybe go on retreat somewhere.
I live in the mountains above Palm Springs and the lower desert. The pictures were take in Anza Borrego State park, about 50 square miles of desert. There is a lot to see in California and Arizona, you'd have fun.
i know - i do want to do it. i have been to california before, but never south of LA. i spent a couple of weeks one xmas in northern california on the coast in a redwood forest near a little town called trinidad. i liked it a LOT. however, i've not been at any other time of year, so only know a cool-ish LA, blustery san francisco, and very very cold northern california.
i also visited new york a couple of times, though not for very long.
in the quite random survey i have done i have found people generally friendly, but don't have a great deal of interest in cities - the best bits were food and nature.
