Last week..

May. 4th, 2003 10:32 am
Last week was busy, very busy.

First, Monday morning, waiting for a consultant to deliver the goods so a contract could be issued, no such luck.

Mom calls and can't find one of the sets of keys, nothing important, but just enough of an issue that I get a bit short with her and her insistence that she be able to live her own life. I tell her that this is a perfect example of why i don't see her living alone much longer. She gets upset, I get upset.

I have three requests on my desk for estimates of street work. I try to depend on interns but they are out of control. I can't depend on them to show up for work on time, and management doesn't set an example I can use, as most drift in sometime between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. How can you tell an intern to be on time when the people in charge are lax themselves.

More work to get the contract out, it seems that some people don't have any common sense of just are doomed to turn out a half ass-ed product. I'll do my best but will wash my hands of this job.

Supervisor is scheduled for surgery on Friday. He blew out his knee in a golf cart accident. You play and you pay, especially when your friends screw up.

Friday, I'm at the mercy of my departmental boss. I try to get some things done for her, finished a few, and gave her some bad news when one item failed to work out.

Saturday, rain, the usual road trip, then Mom wants to go shopping, more rain, driving wet mountain roads, not much accomplished. Total miles for the day 325. A lot of driving.
So far, to market for some no-food items, to the farmers market for strawberries (very sweet and ripe), brussel sprouts, and ripe tomatoes. The trash has been placed in the dumpster, now for a load of laundry and then the Sunday paper.

Got some...

My own box of Peace Pasta

Found this in the natural foods section of my local Albertson's market. I'll save this for the next potluck at work.
Are these people for real?

It seems that some people really don't want peace, except on their own terms and that is scary. This is the second piece of spam I've received from these people. Another David Koresh? Another cult?
Reading about Powell's appearance on TV and his implied threats against Syria. I hate to say it but is the foreign policy of this country become one and the same as Israel? We seem to be doing this whole exercise to insure the survival of Israel, and not as claimed, as a war on terrorism. I figure if Syria doesn't comply, we will first cripple it with economic sanctions, then after that, if still defiant under the b;blackmail of Bush, we will invade and install a government friendly to Israel. They have already written legislation to punish Syria, and the Patriot Act has other measures we can use to bring them to their knees. Don't label me as Anti-Semitic, as I have many Jewish friends, although I am somewhat amazed how much of their lives and wealth center around support of the Israeli government. I'm just amazed how many of them do not believe the Palestinians have a right to exist. They, at times, are as fanatical as Muslim Fundamentalists. Could this be because they all descended from the House of Abraham?
TV is off, reading friends on livejournal, posting a few comments and to my own journal. Need to write checks to pay the bills and get stamps in the morning.
