It seems that all the forces are aligned against true democracy, a democracy where people are allowed to voice and demonstrate their displeasure with policies and issues. We have entered an age where the police state is the normal state of affairs. The media cannot be trusted, dollars and profit come before character and caring. The days of government of the people, by the people, for the people is but a memory. Where I work, the powers that be are wondering where to cut people. In California we are facing a massive deficit and a governor who acts like an action hero, not the caring person he claimed to be. Dubya goes to england, where the people still have the right to dissent. I feel as if there is a force, be it greed, be it whatever, that is driving our country to ruin. At one time I took an oath to serve our country, and gave four years of my life to serve in a far away land to preserve our freedoms. I feel as if someone has taken those things from me. I knew many who lost their lives in defense of those freedoms, but for what. For what have we become? A country where people watch reality TV, but fail to see the reality that our government lies? A country that feels we have a right to plunder the planet so we can live luxury while our children are cared for by citizens of th third world who each day fear being deported? Are our elderly something to be honored or discarded as non-productive elements of the military-industrial complex. And, thinking about that term, has the military-industrial complex become the new God, making the life and death decisions of our society? Will they decide who gets the medicine, the medical treatment, if you are sent to combat, if you are held incommunicado? I only wish that someone or some being brings us wisdom and faith to survive this dark hour and guides us to a new world where men and women can live in peace.

Forty years ago we lost the last great leader this country ever had. I miss you John.

p.s. We also miss Martin Luther King, Robert F. Kennedy, and all the others who gave their lives in the civil rights battle.

Where are people like these today?
