I grieve for America. I served in the military from 1968 to 1972, and at that time I served as a volunteer, I was not drafted. Then my view changed. I became part of the greater intelligence structure and learned what our country stood for. When it came time to leave or re-enlist, I left, mostly because I could not morally continue in the work I was doing. No, even to this day I cannot talk about my work, but suffice to say I know what these spy programs could do when I was in there and with the current technology, I'd be afraid to know what they are capable of today. I say, be afraid, be very afraid, as Congress is giving power to the Executive Branch to make life or death decisions without oversight.
During the Cold War we had a defined mission with an identifiable enemy. Now we have an obscure mission with an invisible enemy. Like Vietnam, you can't tell the players because someone forgot to make them different from the general population. Thus we have atrocities, mass civilian casualties, and mysteries like Fallujah. Was Fallujah another My Lai? We'll never know because the Fourth Estate, the Media, has failed us. This is not their own doing but a carefully crafted plan by the Pentagon to avoid the embarrassment they suffered at the hands of the press in Vietnam.
It is time for all good Americans to speak out. We must stand up and be sure we vote, although there is some doubt if that really means something now days. Vote, as the midterm elections are direct elections, not some game like the electoral college where focus groups decide if you count or not. VOTE. The life you save may be your own, or your child, or your neighbor. The liberty you preserve may be the best gift you can give your country. VOTE!
