I guess I'll have to start eating imported rice, as the USDA has now approved genetically engineered rice made by Bayer, a variety that has been found to have contaminated the rice seed crops in this country.

The USDA has now shown its true colors, placing business interests over the concerns of farmers and consumers. They have opened the floodgate to more 'frankenfood' to be passed off as safe to the American consumer.

These 'frankenfood' species are the latest craze, besides the use of nanotechnology, that the USDA has failed to protect the farmer and consumers interests.
It seems that many in this country (the United States) seem to think we are very powerful in this world. That is a misconception. Since Dubya was 'elected' we have slipped big time in international politics. Our so called friends are not friends as you might think but a slick band of opportunists who are willing to give some limited support to our misadventures, but at a high cost. The legacy of Dubya is a soaring national debt,  a failing housing market, a falling dollar, soldiers dying for lack of proper armor or intelligence, and support of policies that leave us particularly vulnerable to terrorist attack. I fear for our future. I don't see the Democrats as the fix, but just a slightly less evil poison we will swallow to seek relief from our troubled state of affairs. Maybe we will go the way the Romans did, as our republic degrades to a fascist theocracy, and eventually we become the third world nation providing the cheap labor and raw materials to other, more powerful nations. Our republic is dying and so are our hopes and dreams. Why, as one of the founding fathers of democracy, have we let things get so bad? Are we doomed by our dumbness? As a government of the people, by the people, for thee people, has our ignorance proved our doom? Why?

Time for bed...
