Last summer I had a once in a lifetime chance to cross a few items off my list.
I visited a few national parks again and despite the government shutdown checked a few off the list.
I visited Acadia NP and watched the sun rise from Cadillac Mountain
I visited Devils Tower. I visited it just after they filmed Close Encounters if the Third Kind it is still magiic.
I visited Eastport Maine and Lubec Maine the two easternmost towns in the United States. Ate some good clams there. I ate a whoopee pie,, a truly Maine dessert. I had a Maine Lobster dinner in Trenton. I went to the end of Interstate 95 in Houlton Maine I went to the top of the Penobscot Narrows bridge 422 feet above the river. The view was outstanding.
I went saw a few lakes. I went to Tahoe and Crater Lake. I also went to a pond near where I grew up in Maine Donnell's Pond.
I saw the Gulf Coast. I ate shrimp there. Pensecola, Mobile, New Orleans. Houston San Antonio El Paso.
I saw and walked on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
I saw Bryce and Zion. I saw Salt Lake. I passed through Las Vegas twice I went to San Francisco Sacramento Stockton San Jose Santa Cruz. I visited Monterey Bay. I saw Big Sur Point Lobos and Highway 1.
I went to Minneapolis Minnesota Denver Colorado Vail Colorado. I spent a week in Georgia. I ate at Waffle House and Huddle House. I ate grits and deep fried drill pickles.
Nothing against Texas but a lot of Texas is empty dry and boring. Texas seems to have more mega churches and religious radio stations except maybe for Oklahoma. Most of the time I spent in New Mexico I was in rain.
I avoided New York City but saw Philadelphia. I was in the Adirondack region. I saw the fall colors. I skipped by Baltimore and Washington DC. I saw a lot of the country.
