Getting stuff together for discard. Getting down to the final boxes. I'll sell some stuff this Saturday at the swapmeet. I got a few things to list on Craigslist.

Now in 'austerity mode'... all bills paid, all obligations met. The Nissan Versa is gone. The cargo bike is gone. The rooftop pod is gone. A bunch of ham radio gear is gone. Still have a microwave and a toaster oven to sell. Thinning down the wardrobe. Thinning down the camping gear. Filing all the paperwork in one small file. Selling a few antiques I own. Replacing some tools that were stolen. Doing the same for some fishing gear. Got a few cameras and lens to give away (they are already spoken for).

[livejournal.com profile] jblindsight introduced me to a word.... anomie.... after reading some of the wikipedia entry it is interesting. In my experience I finding instances that would make me think we are experiencing it now.

Mindfulness... got to work on that. Probably something I should practice but don't.

Soul... read what [livejournal.com profile] jblindsight had to say. Sounds like something I could talk about. Yes, I believe humans have a soul. It might be hard to define but from my personal experience there is something other than the physical body. I sometimes believe it is an entity that lives forever. More for discussion. BTW, for [livejournal.com profile] serendipity, a friend of mine was a devout Jew and converted to Buddhism. He has an prayer space and shrine in his living room. He said it gave him peace he could not find in Judaism.

Enough for now...

Thanks, Alan! Your friend is an example of what some call BuJews. I only recently heard of the term but have known for a long time that Buddhist thought and practice appeals to many Jews - especially those who are secular and/or non-deist. It's refreshing to know that even devout Jews make the switch to Buddhism.

Are you still in Anza? We're visiting my brother in Claremont in late June and might get up to his cabin in Pine Cove again - although I'm already worried about wildfires.

I in my experience with death I discovered that there is something after "death". When I hear what has been referred to as soul that best describes what I discovered. I don't believe there is a hell. I see hell as life ass we know it. I still can't explain the feeling of lightness and love that overwheaalmed me. It was if something had taken away a burdensome weight from me. Maybe it is nothing but a mental state we have yet to undeerstand? I also felt like I had entered another dimension (to borrow a phrase) of space and time. My prior religious beliefs were blown away.
