Friends in low places.

In my years I have found a few friends of note. In recent times my friends have gone full spectrum. I have a few ex felons in the mix. One was convicted if selling drugs, another was convicted of embezzlement. I have a good friend who is into growing pot. Another lady drives big rigs. I have a good friend who I've been talking about her past. She grew up in Russia during the era when Russia was transitioning from communism to the Gorbachev era. I accuse her if having turrets syndrome as she swears like a sailor but she explains her swearing was because she married an Italian sailor and that's how she learned English. Then there is Homer, a southern gentleman in his mud 80s who I see often. He was lucky in that he made a fortune late in life and lives very comfortably in old age. He admitted that he never thought he'd live so long so he watches his finances more now. I know a few recovering crack heads. A few other people I know show the telltale signs of meth abuse. I have s friend who is always starting businesses. He is either going to sign a contract or to sell some startup. I know a few alcoholics. I try to get them to cut back but they keep trying to drown their sorrows and regrets with another drink. Yes, life dishes up a variety and I've found some genuine gems in my time. One observation is that my rough exterior and looks has started many a conversation. I am a person of interest that attracts some kinds of people. I try to remain a mystery to many but a friend to a select few. The few that know me are few. Most people are more trusting than me.
