Part 5
I stayed in town awaiting my court date and at the same time getting my motorcycle repaired. The crash had left me very bruised. I asked and was directed to the local spa. I went there for a soak and to relieve muscles of some of the pain. After getting dressed I went to the casino with was next door. I had never gambled that much so I settled into the roulette table. I asked the gentleman next to me for some advice and he told me what to do. I placed a fairly large bet on the line and watch the wheel spin. My number came up and I found myself with a large stack of chips. I scooped up my winnings and went to the cage to turn in the chips and get my money. I had turned a 10 pound note into over a thousand pounds sterling. My fortune had changed.
The next morning found me in court. With a white powdered wigs and pomp and circumstance my trial began. I plead my case, the constable presented the evidence and the judge made his ruling. I was convicted of driving without undue attention and fined 5 pounds 27 and a half pence. In addition I was banned from riding my motorcycle on the Isle of Man for one year. I was escorted to the ferry and told leave the island.
I made it back to Liverpool and quickly left on a journey across England. Within minutes it started to rain and I sought shelter. With my winnings in my pocket I wasn't as frugal as I've been before. I rolled up to the hotel that had been a former manor house. The valet parked my motorcycle in the garage. Here I was a scruffy looking motorcyclist in a high class hotel. I asked for a room and was offered one for 50 pounds sterling. When I went to the room the maid ask me if I wanted her to draw a bath. The butler offered to find me a jacket so I would dress properly for dinner that night. That night was interesting to say the least. Sitting around in formal dining room with people dressed in their finest discussing politics over fine wine and roast beef. We retired to the library with our drinks and continued our conversations. Later I retire to my room and enjoyed my sleep. The next morning I checked out got on my motorcycle and continued across the English countryside.
To be continued.
