Part 3.

This is a continuation of my adventures on a motorcycle in Europe.

It was a long night on the ferry. Near dawn I woke to gaze out on the cliffs of Dover. I had survived the channel crossing.

Leaving the ferry I was confronted by British customs. It seemed they thought I was of some sort of smuggler. I spent the next hour unpacking everything I own as they checked every thing I own looking for drugs. When I was done this examination I repacked the motorcycle and adventure started again. From Dover I headed to London. It took a bit to get used to riding on the left and the roundabouts we're really a white knuckle ride. I survived and made it to London. I stopped by a BSA motorcycle dealer to get some parts. The bike needed some service so I had that done. I spent the next few hours exploring London and after fighting the traffic decided a beach break was needed. So consulting a map I headed for Brighton. Once in Brighton I headed toward Salisbury. Night was approaching and I needed a place to stay. I had heard that pubs have rooms for rent so I inquired at the White Horse Tavern. I found a room above the pub. This pub was built in the 18th century and the rooms reflected that. There was no heat and the bed was a classic old feather bed. It was like sleeping on a pillow a really big pillow. When I first climbed in south into the bed two feet. Under a layer comforters I slept like a log. The next morning I rose early and had breakfast in the kitchen with the pub owner and his son. It wasn't in the usual breakfast. There were baked beans, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, and tea. After eating I rolled my motorcycle out of the carriage house and departed for Stonehenge.

Stonehenge is remarkable. I made friends with the constable who was guarding the gate and that allowed me to enter Stonehenge before the Sun rose. I was able to watch the sunrise beneath the arches of stone. It is a magical place.

I then returned to my motorcycle and continued the journey. Riding country roads in Britain was fun. It was just one curve after another. It was a test of your riding skills. You have to realize england is not a large country. In that day I covered a lot of ground. I visited Bath, Birmingham, and ended the day in Liverpool. I found a room to spend the night and the next day went looking for a ferry ride to the Isle of Man.

To be continued.
