What people don't know is that the cold war wasn't that cold. Casualties occurred on a daily basis. It was,a spy vs. spy world. When you work in the clandestine services conventions like law and right and wrong are subjective. Everything is seen as a new scenario and the rules change as you go along. Results trump rules. When dealing with national defence you can't be mister nice guy. These factors were one reason I did not reenlist. I wanted to be able to sleep at night. After I left this game (yes, we considered it a game, although it was a deadly game) I was recruited by the CIA. I turned them down. No. I knew that if you went to work for "the company" it was a job for life, and sometimes you gave that life as part of your sacrifice for your counties best interests.
