Last Saturday evening/afternoon on my way to Anza I did something I hadn't done in years. Listening to NPR, I got a chance to listen to Prairie Home Companion, broadcast live from the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul Minnesota. It was a good trip back to Lake Woebegone.

Yay!

I get to hear a little of it every Sunday when picking up R at her dad's and returning. Every now and then we turn it on at home.

His pianist, Richard Dworsky, is a family friend. And one of my high school friends used to usher at the St. Paul shows.

Years ago (1990's)it was a regular routine and part of every Saturday. I figured as a Minnesota girl, you'd be a loyal fan. I heard he's even selling DVD's now.

I wasn't as into it as some of my friends - he really got going after I had moved to Madison. And even the die-hard fans got tired of him after a while. But I'm glad he has endured - the little bits of his show that I hear are endearing and entertaining.

Garrison has a certain charm and radio has a nostalgic aire to it. Yes, in college, there were the Prairie Home Companion fanatics.
