I wonder..

These are some of my late night thoughts.
Do people really believe we live in a Democracy? The closest I've ever come to democracy was in a town hall meeting in Maine. You don't find it in California and it is unheard of in Washington. We are not a government by and for the people, but the best product of American corporate culture. We exist in a form of government just a few steps to the left of Fascism.
Locally, Mary Bono, my rep in D.C. is trying to be an environmentalist. She is pushing forward on a bill to establish more local wilderness areas and some 'wild and scenic river' designations on some of our seasonal streams. While I applaud her efforts on one count, I'll not vote for her because of her voting record, 97% Bush.
Why do people get married? I see so many people hanging on in relationships and marriages that are so lacking in respect or love. I see kids used as pawns, people being subject to physical and mental abuse, or living with spouses who continually cheat and have extra-marital affairs. And to think, some people want to deny all this 'happiness' to the gay community? No, marriage should be a strictly contractual arrangement. There would be no divorce court, only civil court when beach of contract proceedings would be considered. I'd also make sure kids could sue their parents for neglect or abuse.
