It seems that Dubya supports troops, he creates mountains of red tape, provides shoddy care and quarters, then the Army steps up and denies disability benefits as often as possible. Hey, troops are expendable, they're just 'cannon fodder'. I guess this is Dubya's legacy.

The 'V.A.'

"Cut taxes!" and "Support the troops!" happen to be mutually-exclusive goals, yet those two mantras are simultaneously and shamelessly shouted from Republican Party pulpits across the land. The Bush/Cheney/Rove cabal keeps cutting the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA) budget; and it's the USDVA, not the armed forces, which is supposed to look after the troops once they're discharged from military service.

The USDVA maintains in its administrative-management ranks an extremely anti-veteran philosophy, one which has been in place for decades. Although the USDVA's medical professionals have done a good job over the past 25 years or so, its administrative personnel — who have final say on all matters — have worked just as hard to prevent veterans from receiving the benefits to which they're entitled.

"Just say 'No'!" is the USDVA's administrative motto; and "No!" is what the vast majority of veterans hear (and have heard for the past 50 years) when they ask for help from what used to be the Veterans Administration. To purge the USDVA of its administrative anti-veteran belief system, it would be necessary to fire nearly every administrative manager in every USDVA regional office nationwide — because those managers are criminally negligent and continuously show depraved indifference to the plight of military veterans.

Having spent years in the VA system myself, I know of what you speak. Most of the time I did okay by using their own bureaucracy against them. I also had some good advocates in the VFW working for me. But changes have to be made, and that won't happen under Bush.
