a friend..

I got a call very early this morning from a friend expressing her condolences for the passing of my Mom... but another subject is the reason for this post.

This woman I know is becoming like many I know, she has been unemployed and bouncing from one temp job to another, and all the while her healthcare has all but disappeared. She was telling me she needs to go to the local free clinic to have a skin lesion checked. As for treatment, she is hoping to find a way to get it removed, as she has had cancerous lesions in the past. However, she has no medical insurance and medicaid in her state is such, that she is 'too rich' for such aid.

It is bad when a person's health is jeopardized because of the economy. When you have to make choices as to eat, have a roof over your head, or seek medical treatment is not right.

We need what the Republicans want to cut, this 'safety net' is vital to us as a civil society, and those in Washington have their priorities in the wrong place. They call Social Security and Medicare an entitlement, yet I have seen deductions go from my paycheck to the federal government for these programs. We paid for them.  It is a moral contract between those who we elected and we the people, we paid into the program, and they promised to deliver. But no, they now say we must sacrifice, we must share the pain, we must die, we must become homeless, just so the top 2% can have tax shelters and other schemes so they do not have to make a contribution to society. It is the other 98% who fight the wars, provide the services, and pay the taxes, but not the wealthy.  Anyone have directions to the Bastille? Can Google show us the way? I have the pitchfork, and know where I can get a musket...
