The nuts on the right are masters of the long game. They have been playing with fear for decades. I remember growing up in Orange County California and the John Birches having meetings in the local schools after hours.  No, they have always found a 'boogyman' to start the process. Now they have a new target, called Agenda 21.  Seems when you have a public hearing on a project for improving a community, the anti-Agenda 21 folks will be giving public comment for hours. They see anything with the key buzzwords as part of a United Nations plot for a one world dictatorship. Here is an article about these Agenda 21 opponents and how they work. It also identifies what these nuts see as the enemy... and why I keep a watch on these people is because they vote. I wonder if there needs to be some test of the fitness of people to vote? Maybe we should restrict voting to those who can pass the test for citizenship that we require immigrants to take before we allow them to be full citizens and vote. That would only be fair. Locally, we have the wingnuts who see any form of planning as infringing on their 'property rights' while they create dust in our air and unsightly piles of junk.  All I can do is hope to one day live with people who share my vision on a sustainable community with the emphasis on community.
