Life in Anza, life in the tinderbox... the daily blaze.

Right now there is a major blaze in San Diego County near Julian, over 1000 acres and growing fast. Evacuations are ongoing.

Here is the news...

About noon the smell of smoke was in the air, I knew we were in fire season. When you live, as I do, in rural California, fire season is part of life. Here is a shot of today's fire... it was about 10 miles away from me.

First thing this morning I welcomed the junk man. I had talked about getting rid of dtuff that had gathered here over some 30 years, and this was the man for the job. So, bright and early he arrived and filled a large tandem axled trailer with pipe, rain gutters, lawn mowers, old metal objects, a large metal tank, used propane tanks, etc. Overall he loaded approximately 2 ton of metal. The best part was he paid me $150 a ton.

It was getting hot so I was thinking a trip to the beach was in order, but little did I know what was to happen next. As I'm drivng down the state highway leaving town I see in my rear view mirror a towering column of smoke, we had a fire and it was a big one.

Overall, this fire blocked my path home, so I waited to see what was going to happen, with concerns for a friend who had property just across the road. Needless to say the fire destroyed two mobile homes, charred a lot of acreage, and made everyone nervous. It is fire season in my neighborhood and it looks like a bad year.

I have more pictures on my Flickr page if you want to look...
