Bike stuff.... more
Jan. 13th, 2011 11:13 pmYesterday I found a home for my latest find, the Mongoose IBOC Comp went to my friend Steve's place by way of the bicycle shop in Idyllwild. I dropped it by Steve's place and he had me drop it at the bike shop, it will get a new chain and some adjustments. I also dropped a set of wheels to be serviced, as they had been neglected too long.
Got in a small but interesting bike ride, in snow and ice near Lake Fulmor. Nothing like going downhill and not daring to touch the brakes because you are traveling over a sheet of ice, and the route was not forgiving, as a crash might have landed me in ice cold water. The Gary Fisher does well, with the short wheelbase the weight is over the rear wheel and I got good traction.
Today was an off day, did nothing of note except a short trip to the desert. Called the bike shop and it will be another day before I pick it up.
I like this weather, while the rest of the country freezes, we may see 80 by the weekend. Tis the season for bike rides in the lower desert, oh, and by the way, I may do my first organized ride of 2011, the Tour of Palm Springs in February. Later in May I will try to do the Tour De Cure and I will be looking for sponsors. It is a ride for the American Diabetes Association, and as a diabetic (type 2) I will try to ride as part of Team Red. So, I'm going to do more road training.
