more project bikes...
Nov. 19th, 2010 08:26 pmToday started by a bit of horse-trading. I swapped an excellent Trek 990 mountain bike tor a bicycle I owned as a kid. I now have and am going to restore my Schwinn Cruiser (made in Chicago) with an original springer front fork and a 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub in the rear wheel. I even scored a heavy duty bike rack like I used when I had a paper route. I'll post pictures as I progress.
Then I saw a forlorn bike that needed a home, a 1991 Gary Fisher Montare... a classic bike in its own right, and about 90% still there. This will take a lot of cleaning and a lot of restoration. Full Shimano Deore, index shifting, and a unique frame design. The paint is red with orange spots, as it came from the factory.
So I now have two projects for the winter months. Why do I do this? I was a bicycle mechanic from 1972 to 1975. I remember what I knew and have the special tools to do the task. I'll keep doing this for as long as I can.
