There will be a new driver to force people to poverty... automobile poverty.... I live in a very rural area, we still have many dirt roads... the people around me are not wealthy, I can say a few have a lot of disposable income, but the majority are just getting by in this depressed economy.
This article addresses the problem, but really doesn't offer a solution... we are addicted to oil, the oil world is changing, and we are being pushed to the back of the bus by countries where the culture is not so addicted to cars...(even though China and India are now seeing a boom in cars)... we need to embrace living closer, living with walking, using a bike, looking at public transport as a solution and a means to an end, rather than something only poor people do... in past history my community was isolated... and the town survived... a lot of self reliant people live here... we may be forced to become like the pioneers again... we have the horses, we have the land to graze them on... we have a few wagons around. I don't see solutions before we things get real bad... pain, real pain, may bring people to there sanity, but there will be a lot of pain before that happens.
